Besides being more flexible, you can get a better quality image with
Photoshop. Often you can see banding in perfect gradients. That is, your
eye will pick up the breaks between colors. By using Photoshops noise
filter at a fairly low setting, you can break up the perfectly straight
edges so it looks more smooth. This has been a standard trick in the
Graphic Arts industry for years.
