You should be able to do the 12-13 'databases' as tables? Or will there be tables sets within them again ?

If you can do them as tables, I don't imagine you will have problems with it. That's not a large number for it to deal with, I've done considerably larger things than that.

Also, I am using strings for things like last name, first name, etc - which
are variable in length in the database. Wouldn't it be more compact and
efficient to have some maximum character length - for example 20 characters for last
name, and 15 for first?
