I can't seem to find any references to Windows API calls in the
REALbasic documentation.  Does this mean that there is no way to
accomplish the equivalent of an API call?

Not at all, take a look at the Declare statement.

Also, if you looking for examples, check out the Win32 Declare Library (you can find it on RBGarage (www.rbgarage.com). There are a bunch of declares already written for you there (so you may find what you need already done), so you have a lot of examples to work from.
