Since I am new to realbasic (not to programming though, I
use C...), in the few days I have been using it a few
questions have came to find that perhaps some others here
might be able to answer. I am a PC user, haven't used a Mac
in over 10 years, so obviously all my questions are PC only.
I'll keep the list short.
1. I made a VERY simple first form just to play with. All it
did was put a text field that I entered my name in, added an
OK button, and when the button is clicked a msgbox comes up
with my name in it. Ok no problems there, BUT what I'm
trying to figure out is why the executable was 1.7 mb!!
Nothing fancy, just a form with a text field, button, and a
popup window used. I can't imagine why the file was so huge,
even with any wrapper functions. Is there any way to get
that file smaller? I could see a few hundred K, but not 1.7
mb. I fear something slightly more complex taking 5 megs or
so.
2. I was curious if RB supports DirectX 9. I looked for it
in the archives but could not find an answer, then again, I
may not have looked hard enough. Even though RB may have its
own routines, I prefer to use what is more common. Does
anybody know?
3. Lastly, I have Visual Basic 6 Working Model and RB 5.5
demo. Obviously RB is FAR cheaper, but I know VB is more
common. I have a starting VB book here that I'm learning
from and so far, there are many similarities between the
two. Even though the layout is different, its easy to figure
out. Has anybody else here used both compilers? Since there
are so few RB books out there, and almost all that I've seen
are for Mac (which I don't use), I'm wondering if I bought
some VB books are the two compilers close enough that I
could use and perhaps slightly modify the code to work with
RB? Hopefully someone has experience with this.
I'm still trying to weight the pros and cons of both
compilers. I know there is considerably more for VB out
there, but so far, RB just seems fine. I try to avoid
Microsoft compilers if I can. I think they are overpriced.
Thank you to those helping a new RB user out. :)
