I did define the variable as a local. Please show me how to define a global(?) variable? I'm not sure I'm even asking the right questions, but I surely am learning a lot.

Open the code editor, and go up to Edit->New Property. This will add a property to whatever class (or module) is currently being edited. You can then set the scope of the property so that it's only accessible to that class (or however you need to set it).

HTH!
