how to set the size of an editfield to view all text ?

hello again with my editfields question ;p

an edit field : mutliline

if i change the txt content  of the editfield, the new content might 
not be all fit in the fixed size of the editfield. is there a way to 
know what caracters are not visible ? to find a solution to calculate 
the size of the editfield to display the full text content.
thx for any sugestions.
