Hi,
a. Macintosh compiled application for Windows target:
That is why I am against the use of anything but a true windows hardware. A plus
is to not "look like an idiot" (sorry, GAmoore words, but it could be mine too).
If you run your application on the target hardware (Macintosh or Windows)
chances are that you fall into the traps before anybody else and can remove them
on time.
b. Company honesty:
Basically, GAmoore is right, but we must remember that we talk about a
commercial company (we like and support): they cannot waste time (they do not
have) supporting software version prior to "current".
Remember: "current" version is actually REALbasic 5.5.3 on two platforms
(Macintosh and Windows).
Must they release 'as bug free as possible' versions ?
Yes, but that is what they already (try to) do.
Walk a mile in their shoes (or better: walk a mile on your user's shoes) and the
understandings will come:
There is a difference between what I want to do and what I can achieve (on a
time/budjet [number of employees]).
Sorry, I went a bit away from the original question / answer.
Cheers,
Emile
PS. Don't get me wrong: when I fall into some trap using REALbasic 5.5.3, I am
angry like anyone else (Real Software people included).

Sometimes I try to "walk a mile on 'some other guy' shoes".
Just this week, I wrote a program that worked in RB5.5.3/mac, but it crashed
when compiled in RB5.5.2/Windows. When upgraded to 5.5.3/Windows, then it
ran. So this is why I suggested getting the most recent version.
I wish Real would be a little more open and honest about these kind of major
problems. It was also a major issue that 5.2.4 would only make crashware for
windows when compiled from Mac. That caused me a lot of headache, and made me
look like an idiot when I sent some apps out, and then I had to pay for the
upgrade just to overcome that bug.
