Hey Brian,
Don't give up. I believe most people can do programming. You don't
have to be a mathematician or rocket scientist to learn RB. In fact,
all my high school years I was terrible at math (c student and one d).
I always wanted to learn programming but my thinking was like you. I
thought that I needed to be good (in my case) in math to be a
programmer. I found out that programming has helped me with my
Algebra. I took a pre-Algebra course and got a B ( the first ever ).
I know the basic ground about OOP and I am moving towards C++ and Java.
I have accomplished all this because of programming (in my case with
RB). I still have problems understanding when to use memoryblocks and
things like that. I have been using RB since RB F9. I spend hours
learning on my own and do very simple programs. I try to understand
what is happening with the code. I bought RB for dummies (simple,
REAL beginners but useful ) and also Matt's book ( a bit too out there
for me at that time ) . I also tried learning realbasic with the high
school curriculum ( on the RB website) and you learn a lot. When I get
to the point that I don't understand a concept or a word (like pointers
or class interface ) I go to webopedia.com or any other technical
dictionary online. My first resource is this list.
The main thing is program, program, program even if you fail. Say
like Benjamin Franklin when he was in his 1000 try for the light bulb
"now I know of a 1000 ways a light bulb does not work "

Hello every body !
I Bought RB pro 5.5 just about 6 months ago.
( why I went for the pro version instead of basic ..well I guess I got
excited)
I have never programmed before ( well just a dab in perl)
and took the leep into RB
Im not a math major or a rocket scientist....so I always doubted
myself as to trying to learn programming.
Ive done the tutorials...bought matt Neubergs RealBasic the definitive
guide ( understood what I could from there)
I did give up for a couple of months trying to learn RB
but the desire is there and I find myself trying again.
I guess I just wanted to ask if other people here have had the same
feelings and how did you overcome the learning curve?
Maybe its just me...As I said im just a highschool grad (now 35) with
the burning desire to learn RB
I appreciate any response to this e-mail...
Thank You
Brian
