That is why we now have 160 meg applications :) The good ol' days when
they fit the entire OS in to a 128K ROM (mac OS)... or coded Pac-Man in
to a 4K EPROM... :)
It is nice to have things completed for you, but that's always been my
objection... the more they do for me, the less power I have.
I'd rather write the network socket than use a canned connector... a
perfect example of why this is bad (which I just learned)... ShowURL
will not work in future versions of Windows... had I hand coded it in a
different manner, it wouldn't break. (Not saying this is RB's fault,
it's MS's fault).
A lot of applications utilize a ShowURL type of function in their
applications to show their websites, hell, even Microsoft does it with
their extended online office help...
Know the machine level, then you can do what you aren't supposed to ;)
Programming has changed so much that most programmers are not system
level. They can code with canned dialogue boxes, but forget about
getting them in to the Kernel source.
