That's not documented behavior, and I certainly wouldn't recommend
relying on it.
I have always wondered why the Mask was not set to 8-bit color.
It is not saving the pic and the mask either separately or joined,
it is saving the "mixing result" of what the canvas puts on screen.
JPEG files do not support alpha channels.
It doesn't sound to me like he wants to save a picture with an alpha
channel, but rather, wants to save the flattened result.
