Be nice if there is a local "group".

Why not offer to teach a Head Start class??
This is where you reach out to your community and offer to share your
skills.. to the children and then anyone else wanting to begin programming
but without all the complexities of VB. Hell, I once babysat for a couple
whose 9-month-old kid knew how to use an iMac (as in *very* basic stuff -
mouse-only skills).
You could earn tons of money if you go to the private schools with your
resume' - many parents with money will pay a small fortune to give their
kids the edge on other kids. Where I live is so rich there are a few
"subdivisions" with only six houses! I work at the local grocery store and
half the "customers" are actually the residents' personal shoppers. SO -
I've been thinking about this, too, and it looks like a potential gold mine
:) These people are so busy and rich that it's a matter of pride and some
kind of sick fad to go to China for 14 days and come back with a baby only
to pay a nanny to raise the poor kid and private tutors and .... Whatever.
My point is that there are a million differant ways to *start* the community
instead of waiting for a chance (to join) that may never actually happen,
because what if it's YOU that THEY are waiting for??? You never know.
My other point (to everyone on this list) is that, if you build yourself a
little money pot out of your skills, then others are sure to follow, and
henceforth an Community is born! And You will have started it 88)

PS - I've been in the news many, many times for "raising awareness" on
several issues here and there. I used to actually find a crowd of people
and deliver a solo speech, usually motivating in nature, and their jaws
usually drop. Someday I'm gonna write a book!
