So what would be affordable?

1 US$?

or still too much?

Start to get real folks, even the full list price of 499 for the remainder of year 2005 and then 200 for each year thereafter.....

499......
200......

relax
think
relax

do some math:

thats 2.8 US$ a day for the rest of the year....
and next year its gonna be 0.55 US$ a day....

If you are programming for the fun of it, as a hobby and passtime and not wanting to make money with it, that may seem a little steep, but just consider what you spend for your other hobbies (if you have none.... but thats another thread). What do you pay for car wash each year? What for sweets, cigarettes, beer, booze, cds, stereo, videos, vacation, whatever.

If you make money with it, and cannot afford the 500 bucks, then maybe, just maybe you want to reconsider your business model...

Cheers

Alex

Excuse me, Cheap ?, have you considered the COST of lost opportunities due to
higher pricings ?
It cost meee ! I would like to assume RB is affordable and stay's that way.
But right now if I had to purchase the top of the range package, I am not ashamed to say,
"sorry, but my project now has to be canceled because the cost to compile and do
what is nescesary is beyond me, if only.."

The principle is loud and clear. Opportunities and innovations priced out.

This is my last message on the issue, don't how I got involved in all this, was
just trying to answer other emails, so PLEASE, keep it affordable .

Bye for now.

Finally someone who hit the point. REALbasic is so cheap, cheap, cheap. And it is so good, good, good. With other development tools You pay so much for deployment licenses, wow ... some hundred dollars a year are nothing.

Dietmar

Folks,

I just joined this list 2 weeks ago and already i feel at home.
I come from 4D ($th Dimension, www.4d.com) and any time 4D announces a new version and new pricing we go through this whole debate all over again and interstingly RealBasic with its pricing model always comes up as the options some will take who dislike the 4D pricing... Well, I guess you never can make someone happy when it comes to pricing fo a development platform (short of giving it away for free). BTW: I looked at so many other development systems and RB is one of the lowest priced and they have no deployment fee, look at 4D pricing!

cheers

Alex
