If you use the Apple pull-down in the upper left of the screen (Mac OS X)
you will find an entry called Force Quit. It may show up there.

Failing that, you could try the Activity Monitor (to be found in the Applications:Utility folder).
It has an option to allow you to quit any given process.

Of course I aleady know these (20 years on many macs, I am a beginner on Rb but not on macs) What I want is including some code in my RB app to make the faceless clivlc (VLC daemon) quit on demand, not relying on any external app.
