Hi,

I accidentally saved over an RB project with another RB project on
Windows XP and have lost about 16 hours worth of work in the process. Is there any way to recover the old file or was it completely destroyed in
the process of being saved over.

It may be recoverable if you haven't saved anything else since then. Most OSes simply write a new file and then free the blocks to be written over later.

The problem you might encounter is, if you don't already have a file recovery program already installed, you might wipe out the file by installing it. Norton's Utilities and others allow booting and running from the install CD or DVD and then restoring your file. Even running your email program could have already destroyed the file however.

I would also like to add a comment about keeping a regimen of individual backups.

Sixteen hours of work really requires a conscientious effort to backup frequently and as individual files. Simply saving with the same name as an existing file will *not* allow you the opportunity to return to a previous version when problems are encountered.

Disk space is cheap these days and unnecessary copies can be deleted later when they are deemed no longer necessary to keep.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pond of cure.

Terry

PS. I hope this teaches you a lesson
