A few users are beginningto report that an application compiled for Windows
with RB 4.x (and running under Windows 98 SE or Windows Me) may exhibit sound
problems. Specifically, when a sound is dragged into a project, the play
method for that sound will set the user's volume control to maximum each time
any sound is played. The sound plays normally when the same project is
compiled with RB 3.x.
The problem does not affect all machines; it seems to be particularly
troublesome with users who have a SoundBlaster AWE32 card, though I've
received some reports from users with other sound cards as well. A
demonstration project is quite simple; just create a window with a button,
drag in some System 7sound, and put
somesound.play
in the button's Action event. It plays as expected on some Windows systems,
and sets the user's volume to maximum on others.
Any changes in the RB 4 sound code that could explain this phenomenon?
