It's new in a6 (though this feature actually has existed to a smaller degree
in REALbasic for several releases - open the menu editor in v4.5 and click
in the black area in the upper right corner).
This feature has become more necessary now that we have REALbasic for
Windows. The default menu system for the Windows IDE needs to look like
Windows but the user will need to be able to get to the Apple menu to add
items to it. Hence the need to improve this feature to this degree.
I don't think we will be doing this with windows as the look of individual
controls can change from one version of the OS to another. Also, REALbasic
uses native controls even in the window editor so it would take quite a bit
of work to get it to draw Windows controls on a Mac and visa versa. It's
doable but probably not good bang for the buck.
