I'm not sure if I understand the use of it. It seems like there's no
way to actually have a menu that exists in one OS version and not in
another. So what's the point? Do I really care if the menus are
rendered like Windows menus, if I can't actually make the Windows menu
set different from the Mac menu set?

This release is quite an improvement! Much more useable!
I just noticed the addition to the menu different menu views
(Classic, OS X,
Windows)! Great! Is this new to a6? I never was able to get to a
point where
I needed menus in the previous releases to really notice this. This
is very
cool. If only we had the same control on a window!
It's new in a6 (though this feature actually has existed to a smaller
degree
in REALbasic for several releases - open the menu editor in v4.5 and
click
in the black area in the upper right corner).
This feature has become more necessary now that we have REALbasic for
Windows. The default menu system for the Windows IDE needs to look like
Windows but the user will need to be able to get to the Apple menu to
add
items to it. Hence the need to improve this feature to this degree.
I don't think we will be doing this with windows as the look of
individual
controls can change from one version of the OS to another. Also,
REALbasic
uses native controls even in the window editor so it would take quite
a bit
of work to get it to draw Windows controls on a Mac and visa versa.
It's
doable but probably not good bang for the buck.
