Then perhaps this new Canvas-based code editor should eventually be
exposed as a component for us to use, since it apparently gets around
some limits of the current native implementations on Windows and
Linux.
The limitations it gets around are primarily things which are useful
for editing code but not for editing text in general, such as drawing
the block guides.
Personally I would just love to have any kind of canvas class that is
capable of replacing an editfield, assuming it was open for me to edit.
Then I could tweak it as I need to do what I want, like special
formatting of text. Actually, I don't even need text input, just text
display and the ability to copy/drag text from the field.
The two hardest problems with trying to make a working canvas based
multi-line editfield are getting wrapping with text styles, and text
highlighting for copy/paste/drag. You guys probably aren't doing any
word wrapping, but the text highlighting routines would be a godsend.
Sorry if this is double posted, it never returned back to me so I sent
it again.
