Well, the latter issue is almost certainly a memory issue. Allocate
more memory to your classic app (you do this in the Build Settings
dialog).

Thank you. That did it for getting the graphics to appear. I'm still
having problems when I show a new window (with a backdrop) and then
close an old one. I get a white flash for a moment as this is going
on. In OS X the transition is not at all jarring.
