3DS is ugly but its about the most universal format there is for 3D. Some
apps also accept OBJ as a "standard" (for example, at its heart, Poser uses
OBJ geometry), but most modellers support exporting 3DS format. 3D Studio
MAX also produces .max files which contain more information.
