If a flight simulator requires a steep learning curve, it definitely
makes it less fun for me. I've played Hellcats over the Pacific and am
now playing Skyfighters 1945. Both required you to learn a little bit
about flying (using your flaps and gear on take-off, using your rudders
to make sharper turns) but not too much. And as I play the game, I find
my skills getting better and better which is part of the fun.
I think a flying game that basically removed this element could still
be fun but would get boring pretty fast.

Yes, I recognize that some players enjoy such effort -- thus the
enduring popularity of flight simulators. I hope you recognize that
there are others who have neither the time nor the patience for it.
