Thanks to some great 3D modeling by Jeff Quan, I now have a very
early version of a 3D version of Zombie Invasion. It's in source
code form here:
<http://www.strout.net/temp/Zombie.zip>
You will of course need Quesa installed to run this successfully. I
don't yet have any selection indicators, to say nothing of a map
overview or hit-point/movement-point indicators, so it's not really
playable in any serious way. It's still a bit of fun though. Be
sure to turn on your stereo speakers or put on your headphones, too.
Note that the unit controls have changed; it's now relative to the
way the character is facing, rather than to the camera. This is
really the only sensible way to do it, since you can now rotate the
camera arbitrarily, and besides, Lars prefers it that way. :) So
left/right turns your character, up-arrow moves him forward, and
down-arrow turns him around and moves him forward.
Among the other known issues: the holy water model is still missing;
humans' clothes change when they pick up certain weapons; democracy
works poorly without a very well-educated and engaged electorate.
No, wait, that last one has nothing to do with Zombies. Well, not
much to do with it, anyway.
Zombies is open-source; feel free to contribute (I can't guarantee
that I'll use any changes you submit, but I'll certainly consider
them). Many more versions would be forthcoming, if this project were
serious, which of course it's not since Jeff and I still have to get
Renegades out the door.
Best,
- Joe
