Hi everyone, I just had an idea for making a game, which might be
relatively easy to do, and would provide a good opportunity for some
interesting code possibilities: a 'Risk'-like "world domination" game.
If you havn't played 'Risk', then here's a brief overview: the
gameboard is a map of the world, divided into the continents of Asia,
Europe, Africa, North America, South America, and Australia (which
includes New Guinea and Indonesia). The map is very simplified,
showing only country names, borders, and continents, and there less
countries represented on it than there are in real life (this means
that several countries are grouped together as one, for example:
Argentina on this map actually consists of Argentina, Bolivia, and
Chile; this makes the game much simpler).
When the players set the game up, each player recieves an equal
number of countries, randomly distributed, which they control at the
game's start. Each player also gets a number of 'armies' (tokens
representing one army) which they distribute however they like on
their countries.
On each player's turn, they may use any of their countries to attack
any other player's adjacent country. If they succesfully defeat all
of the opponent's armies occupying that country, the attacking player
moves a portion of the armies from the attacking country to the
defeated country.
Also, each turn, a player gets extra armies to place on any country
they control depending on how many countries they already control
(the more countries you control, the more extra armies you get), and
they get bonus armies if they control an entire continent (the bigger
the continent you control is, the more bonus armies you get).
The object of the game is to eventually control every country on the
map, thus conquering the world.
The actual rules are a bit more complicated and have information
about how to determine outcomes between fighting armies and other
details like that, but this is the general idea of the game-hopefully
my description of it made sense :)
I think the hardest part of this might be making th AI good enough to
be fun to play against, and it would also be cool if you could choose
to play against someone else on the same computer or over the
internet.
Is anyone interested?
