I'm curious if anyone has opinions about the "best" way to build a

"Best" is a matter of debate, and depends a lot on the type of
application and your expectations/requirements. What's best for you
may not be best for someone else...
Specifically, I'm interested in a single-file drag & drop
installation, or the closest thing to it (i.e. I'd like to avoid
using a formal Installer program if possible, and I don't want to
get into "DLL Hell" or worry about versioning problems with the
libraries ). My target would be OS X (10.3 or later) and XP
(SP2 or later). I don't know enough about Linux(es) to know what
the relevant version / issues are there.
On Mac OS X you'd just create an app bundle, on Windows I'd highly
recommend using an installer regardless if you've got external dlls
or not, and someone else will have to comment on Linux.
I'm agnostic about using Quesa vs. OpenGL declares, though I'd like
to pick one and standardize it across all three platforms.
Quesa already works across all three platforms so Rb3D/Quesa would be
the "simplest way to get 3D on Mac, Win, Linux". A few searches on
the Games NUG archives will reveal lots of discussions on OpenGL
declares vs. Rb3D/Quesa - I'm not sure another round on that topic is
needed ;)
Frank.
