In all honesty, I haven't tried. The reason for keeping it a 5.5 project is primarily because it started off as an example for 5.x users.

I've updated it a few times in the past year, taking care to keep it as a 5.5-compatible project. If memory serves, there's a couple bugs left to quash. Anything else added would simply be gravy on top.
