I was wandering the mall this weekend with my family, and perusing the titles in a game shop. Many of them are by Steve Jackson Games, which produces a lot of fun stuff ranging from GURPS to SPANC (yes, they seem to like acronyms).

I've played Car Wars and Toon back in the day, I even bought the Apple 2 version of Auto Duel, but it was nothing like Car Wars -- mostly an arcade game vs. the crazy "one full turn = one second of time" that I remember Car Wars to be.

But I digress: Many of Steve Jackson's games that I've seen or played use basic rules for fast rounds, so unless you're shooting for plenty of A.I.-driven NPCs, the basic rule set should be straightforward to implement. Yes, it's easier-said-than-done, but SJ games aren't as complicated as D&D or Avalon Hill games.

My $0.02.
