PHP to TB?

Hi,

I'm looking for the best method to let a PHP script talk to a RB app.
It's for simple notifications (the PHP script triggering an action in
the RB app), and also for user feedback (the PHP script should query
some information from the RB app and display it on the web page).

Any tips which method I should look into? Does PHP suppport AppleEvents?
Any tricks with the shell?

This will be happening on a G4 OS X 10.2.3 with RB 4.5 (or, if
necessary, RB 5). Both apps running on the same machine, of course.
