Not so at least in Pascal. Indeed, when there was discussion about extensions to Pascal when a new compiler was starting development a few years ago, many contributors strenuously resisted C and C++ additions* like the increment and decrement operators; multiple inheritance; and function and procedure overloading. I recall the resistance prevailed.
