I'm curious as to why people want this.
I understand why people like TDG (my copy is pretty well worn), and
why
people update books in general.
What I'd like to know is what, specifically, requesters believe they
would
get from a TDG 3rd edition that they're not getting from the 2nd
edition +
various other sources (lists, RS docs, etc.).
Beginner info? Advanced techniques? New feature info? Convenience?
Hardcopy?
Matt's special sauce?
The introductory books and materials are useful for new comers.
An advanced techniques book would be very useful to a lot of people.
And, the second edition is getting sufficiently long in the tooth that
things that were true for RB 3 - 3.5 may no longer be true.
Version 5.5 is sufficiently different in many respects wit hall the
additions a,d fixes and version 6 can't be too far off.
I'd suspect that by the time 6 comes out there will be enough
differences that a new volume would be a welcomed addition to a lot of
developer libraries if it isn't already.
And, version 2 is getting harder to find.
Too bad O'Reilly doesn't think it's worthwhile
It's not that O'Reilly doesn't think it's worthwhile; they think that
it's not profitable.
