Thanks for your reply, I understand. I have looked at .doc files in
text editors and notice that the way MS have coded their format is
simply crazy and illogical in every way.

Sorry ... no
Native word files are as close to impossible to read as you can get
because of the OLE file format.
It's simply under documented and also no help from MS to get at it.
You could probably extract the code from OpenOffice but that's
actually a lot of work.
