The plugin I wrote at http://www.control-d.co.uk/download.htm can tell you
what OS your app is running on (Windows versions only)

Subject: Detecting Windows98
I've run into an interesting issue with Win98.
My app computes a cache of images in the background (a timer), and in
fact will precompute several thousand small images and stuff them in
an array of pictures.
On Mac & WinXP, it works fine. A few meg of memory gets chewed up as
the cache fills.
On Win98, OTOH, all system resources are rapidly consumed, and the app
crashes.
Any clues as to what is happening, and how to work around it?
Alternately, is there a reasonable way to find out exactly what OS
you are running under?
