Lots of external graphic files. The current project I'm working on takes 14 seconds to load into RB2006r1

Currently when opening a project there is no visual feedback to the user that something is indeed going on. As is standard practice, there should be a progress bar shown.

Only if it takes more than an instant, which opening a project really shouldn't.

I've got some pretty huge projects that open instantly. I wonder what's different about your projects, that they take so long as to want a progress bar?
