Joe, can you define "huge" for us?
Well, while of course I no longer have access to the IDE's source
code, when I did it was quite large -- over 12 MB, with hundreds of
classes and modules -- and it would open in about a second.
It didn't use any external items, but I currently have a suite of
projects that all share about 20 items, and they open instantly.
My projects are big but relatively simple. I use very few external
items and almost no plugins. I can't imagine what would be in my
projects that make them open more slowly than yours.
Me either. I have no plugins installed, but I can't imagine why that
would make much difference. I'm not on a particularly beefy machine,
either -- just a 1.5 GHz G4. (Though when I was working with the IDE
code, it was on a 2 GHz dual G5.)

Lots of external graphic files. The current project I'm working on

Hmm, that could be it. My projects rarely have any graphics in them
at all (I prefer to load graphics from disk at runtime).

One of mine (6 mb) takes 25 seconds, no externals, very few
pictures. But if I kill FontAgent Activator it opens in 10
seconds... I think I've mentioned this before (5.5?), but with
Suitcase.
Another interesting clue; I have no extensions installed on my Macs
except for Default Folder.
Odd,
