type-casting enumerations

I understand that enumerations must be typecast before they are assigned to integers, but why doesn't the typecasting work in the opposite direction (i.e., typecasting an integer to its equivalent enumeration value)? This is possible in other languages. When I attempt this in REALbasic, I get an error message stating that a class is expected for the typecast instead.
