I don't think that the default button is what Steve had in mind. What I feel he wants are equal buttons that can pass on information to the user when the window in question contains important information in a subtle way. It sounds to me more like an option than a default action.

Another possibility is a line of text (in Red) above the button; similar to messages on the internet when you have left a mandatory field incomplete or empty.
