In my case, this isn't of interest. I just need a one-time ID, to identify visited objects.


In that case you could merely use a function that keeps a static counter, and that increments it every times after it returns its value.

Thank for the hint. I even have class framework, which serialises any - even cyclic -
object networks to a flat file.

I just wanted to use a quick solution. Well...
