Due to my move back to independent status and thus increasing
concentration on REAL basic, I've been thinking more about broadening
the RB user base.

The cross-platform market is a natural "chasm-crosser" for RB.
However, at some point it should maybe not be the sole hook for new
purchasers.

When you are retailing a development environment in the Windows space,
you're up against the "find a reason to reject it" approach to
evaluation.

As such, and I'm sorry to have been harping on this, one of the tests
I do is put together complex forms including
1) nested tabs
2) lists with drag and drop, especially compatibility between lists
and trees
3) tree control filling.
4) table layout customisation including allowing editing and per-cell/
row/column size and styling.

Experience has shown the issues in visual editing and APIs in these
areas to be a very effective test of the productivity and stability of
an environment.

At some point, I think every single UI I have developed has used at
least one of the above. Other experienced developers probably have
similar lists.
Unfortunately, if you have failed significantly on someone's list, it
will be a long time before you get a fair evaluation from them again
and, worse, they tell people about it.

Someone on the beta list recently said:
"it's like my wife going to a restaurant where the foods great,
but the bathroom is dirty!

Never going there again."

Food for thought!
