I would propose that we expand the "do not load" stuff to include any
external item, not just images.
Also, we would need to think hard about imap vs pop support, ssl, all
the different auth techniques that are common, and how to
intelligently deal with spam. In my case, I have things set up on my
own server to allow me to forward mail that I consider spam back to
my server so that it will learn. I much prefer to have my server
filter my mail than to have my mail client do so.
Rules are a huge deal to me - the more robust the better. One thing
I like about Apple Mail is that the matching criteria for their rules
are expandable - I can specify any header or combination thereof to
match or ignore. Now, on the flip side, I do wish that the options
for what to do after the mail matched a rule were as robust. Perhaps
the applescript stuff that has been proposed will address this.
I still know people (relatives, mostly) that print out mail they
receive so they can read it. We'd need to make sure that printing
is handled gracefully and elegantly.
And finally, I will not use a mail program that cannot integrate with
my address book on OS X. That's the only reason I don't use
Thunderbird.
