I'm going to define an interface for mail storage and searching.   
Then, we can try out several different implementations.  I encourage  
anyone who feels strongly about a particular approach to give it a  
try, once we get to that point.  It should become quickly apparent  
which code produces the best performance with the smallest, cleanest  
code.
