I drag .bmp's into my project all the time and they display find on both Mac
and Windows, but there *is* one annoying quirk I've found: If I replace an
existing .bmp with a new one, RB doesn't display the new one when my code
runs, it still shows the old version. In order to replace them, I have to
delete the old .bmp, save the file, quit RB, start RB, and then add the new
..bmp back in.

Maybe it's something like this that's causing your problem?
