By which I mean: I'm copying the icon from a tiff. Then, using an
image editing program (Pixelmator), I'm converting the icon to black
against a white background, then pasting that into the mask.

I did this for 128, 48 and 32 pixel wide icons. And as I said, I tried
using both a transparent and a white background on the icon.
Transparent produces a black background for the icon on windows, and
white gives a white background.

Answering another question: this is under VMWare on Leopard. WIndows
2000 thinks it has a 32 bit display. But I was investigating a report

who saw the same thing.

I tried searching the web and the REAL boards, but couldn't find an
answer.

PS: This business of real vs pretend computers is a bit surreal. Anyhow.
