Well, for the database plugins, they aren't probably used. Basically, a property can show up in the properties window, especially useful for controls. For example, the FillColor of the box control. However, when using a getter/setter pair of methods, it can't be shown in the properties window. If you feel you need this, then it's worth a feature request. If you don't need this, then someone who does can request it.

Also note that the assigns keyword was introduced around 5.1, so this
won't work in 4.5 and before.
