Or, if you're an inferior techno-idiot like me ;-), you could look at
Linspire (www.linspire.com)

Their Linspire Five-0 installer is as slick as any windows installer I've
seen (and a lot quicker).  To verify your equipment, if you have a bootable
CD ROM drive (if you don't, your equipment is too old), you can download the
image for their Linspire Live! bootable CD.  Restart your machine, drop the
CD in and it will boot into Linspire and tell you if your equipment is
compatible.  I'm not sure they have a Five-0 Live! CD out yet, but you could
use their 4.5 version.

The nice thing is, a complete set of dev tools come installed and configured
for you!! 
(Check out their dev tools in the CNR list.  The CNR will
auto-load/configure the tools for you.)
