Are you sure it is not working ?
When I upgraded from 10 to 10.1 then I thought the same, but apparently
it was a security feature where the network card was disabled by
default after installing. And I had to enable it.
I have tried various of cards and they all work for me, even old Asante
cards which were made for the mac and also on brand new motherboards
with Ethernet cards with NForce chipsets (where one would have thought
there might not be any driver yet on Linux).

OK. So my ethernet card doesn't work on Mandrake. No way for me to
develop then! I can't transfer my files or remote debug like that, or
even get net access.
One person recommended I just try different distros, or go for simple
answers found on google, otherwise I could end up getting frustrated.
I've found a website linuxworld.co.uk . Lots of different distros
there for cheap on CD. Downloading is one of my least favourite parts,
because it takes so long.
Apparantly with my SiS (very cheap) chipset, I'll have better luck
with a 2.6 Linux kernel. But unfortunately even Mandrake was based on
2.6 so that's not a good start.
Someone recommended knoppix, although that apparantly is a liveCD so I
don't know how good that is for development.
There are apparantly 3 distros that I'm aware of that are 2.6. Suse,
Slackware and Ubuntu. So now I have a process of trying them all,
before declaring myself totally stuck again.
Really I just wish I could have bought a Linux PC instead of a Windows
PC.
