REAL SOFTWARE UPDATES POPULAR TOOL FOR CREATING CROSS-PLATFORM SOFTWARE
Version 5.5.2 Adds to REALbasic¹s Database, Graphics and Console
Applications Functionality; Free Maintenance Update for All REALbasic 5.5
Customers
AUSTIN, Texas (May 18, 2004) -- REAL Software, Inc. announced today the
release of REALbasic 5.5.2. REALbasic is a powerful, easy-to-use development
tool that enables Windows and Mac users to create software for Windows,
Macintosh and Linux.
³In response to requests from customers, we¹ve added new functionality to a
few key features,² stated Geoff Perlman, president and CEO of REAL Software.
³In addition to improved reliability, we added more database features,
support for more graphics formats and we lessened the requirements for using
console applications on Linux.²
Some of the new and improved features included in REALbasic 5.5.2 are:
· REALbasic Database. REALbasic 5.5.2 now supports the SQL database
capability for updating mis-formed date and time values when used in tables;
it also supports the SQL RecordSet.Delete command. In addition, the
dataControl command automatically handles text encodings, useful in
international applications.
· REALbasic Graphics. Useful for Linux users, REALbasic can now load
JPEGs and PNGs graphics files independently of QuickTime.
· Console Applications. Console applications no longer require GTK, GDK
or the CUPS library to be installed on Linux. Console applications can now
be converted to run as a daemon (background process) on Mac OS X and Linux.
They can also be locally debugged with REALbasic 5.5.2.
· REALbasic Networking. Network interfaces can be assigned to specific
Server Sockets, eliminating conflicts as those interfaces are accessed. This
is useful in server applications where more than one network interface can
be common.
The complete list of updates and changes to REALbasic 5.5.2 are
included in the release notes that can be downloaded with the product.
