REALbasic in Education:
Pomona College Physics Professor Uses REALbasic to Bring "Six Ideas
That Shaped Physics" to Students Using Windows or Macintosh
AUSTIN, Texas, USA (September 6, 2005) – REAL Software, Inc.,
providers of REALbasic, cross platform that really works, announced
today that Dr. Thomas A. Moore, author of a college curriculum and
textbook series, “Six Ideas That Shaped Physics,” is using REALbasic
to build software to accompany the curriculum. Dr. Moore's story is
featured in a new case study <http://www.realsoftware.com/users/
education/pomonacollege> available from REAL Software.
"Six Ideas That Shaped Physics" helps college students understand the
fundamental concepts behind the study of physics. However, the math
required to fully explain these concepts is more advanced than that
required for college freshmen.
Dr. Moore is a physics professor and department chair at Pomona
College. As an avid computer user, software seemed to be a great way
to demonstrate the physics concepts and shelter the students from the
complex math.
According to Dr. Moore, "for years I searched for a development
environment that would make it simple for me to quickly develop
software that would help students understand the physics without
having to understand the advanced math behind it. I also wanted the
broadest number of students to be able to use the software, so cross-
platform compilation was a key consideration. Discovering REALbasic
was like a dream come true.”
As department chair of physics and astronomy and college professor,
Dr. Moore has little time to spend programming. “Before I found
REALbasic, my available programming time over several years went into
producing three very simple and limited programs that only ran on the
Macintosh. Now, with much less effort, I have produced over twenty
multi-platform programs, including vastly more sophisticated and
powerful versions of the original three.”

equilibrium.
