AUSTIN, Texas, USA (May 1, 2006) – REAL Software, provider of REALbasic, cross-platform that really works, announced today the company is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

"We are thrilled to celebrate our ten year anniversary and we would like to thank the more than 100,000 REALbasic users all over the world who have helped us reach this milestone," stated Geoff Perlman, president and CEO of REAL Software. “We look forward to many more years of meeting and exceeding our customers' expectations."

REALbasic, the company’s flagship product, is a powerful, modern object-oriented programming environment and language that enables the creation of cross-platform software for Windows, Macintosh and Linux.

Started on the Mac

Introduced in 1998, REALbasic for Macintosh gained appeal for its similarity to Visual Basic. The product was an ideal choice for Macintosh computer users looking for “Visual Basic for the Macintosh.”

In 1999, the company added the ability for Macintosh developers to compile their software for Windows as well as Macintosh. In 2001, REAL Software added support for Mac OS X, enabling thousands of Macintosh developers to migrate their existing Mac Classic applications to Mac OS X as well as Windows.

On to Windows and Linux

In 2003, the company launched the first version of REALbasic to run on Windows. REALbasic for Windows compiles applications for all 32- bit versions of Windows, as well as Mac Classic and Mac OS X and Linux. In September 2005, REAL Software shipped the first version of REALbasic to run on Linux. In the eight months since then, over 12,000 Linux users have become REALbasic developers.
