Say you are building an application with REALbasic that will run on
Macintosh and Windows. Now you want to test the Windows version of your
application. How do you get the Windows version from your Mac to your
PC?
There are a few software products you can purchase that are designed to
transfer files from your Mac to your PC but there's one that comes free
with
Mac OS 9. It's called Personal Web Sharing.
Go to the Web Sharing control panel, click the Select button for
selecting a
Web Folder and select the folder you wish to access from your PC. Next,
click the Start button.
Once Web Sharing is started, you can launch Internet Explorer on your
PC and
type: "http://" followed by the IP address of your Mac. All the files
in the
folder you selected will appear in your browser and you can then click
on a
file to download it to your PC.
Note: Virtual PC from Connectix is a great product. It let's you run
Windows
on your Mac and is wonderful for testing. It's certainly easier than
having
to constantly copy files from your Mac to your PC. And if you don't
already
have a PC for testing, Virtual PC is a lot less expensive than
purchasing
another computer. I highly recommend it.
For more information about Virtual PC, see the Virtual PC page at the
Connectix web site at:
