Apple has put a lot of energy into developing a set of guidelines that
help
you create a consistent and intuitive user interface. The latest
guidelines
are available at Apple's web site here:
<http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Essentials/>
While these guidelines are specifically for Mac OS X, Apple recommends
using
the Mac OS X guidelines for earlier versions of Mac OS as well.
REALbasic helps you follow these guidelines by creating controls at the
appropriate default size (whenever possible). But it also helps you
position
controls appropriately. For example, when you drag a control near the
edge
of the window, REALbasic displays an alignment line to let you know
where to
stop. For the left, right and bottom edges, it stops at 20 pixels and
for
the top edge, it stops at 14 pixels. When dragging a control towards
another
control, REALbasic displays an alignment line at 12 pixels (the
recommended
distance between controls).
